Anno 1890

Anno 1890

In 1890, Gerrit Kramer started the sauerkraut factory in Langedijk. There was a lot of competition at that time between the 200 small-scale, family-run sauerkraut factories in the Netherlands. The following generations of the Kramer family acquired and restructured many of those factories.

In the 1950s, sauerkraut factories joined forces in Vereenigde Zuurkoolbedrijven abbreviated as VeZet. This company innovated and grew rapidly over the decades. And although many other companies became part of Kramer Food Family since 2006, Royal Vezet is still the largest family member company supplying hundreds of healthy, convenient fresh cut products to Ahold Delhaize.

All our companies are rooted in the agricultural sector. Following their ambition to produce from Farm to Fork, they developed all kinds of fresh cut products. Today we fill over 1 billion plates with convenient but especially healthy food. We strongly believe working together helps us in our purpose of healthy4all food, for generations to come.

Please meet our family member companies.

Ready to cook

In summertime, the production of sauerkraut was done. To ensure employees had enough work, Vezet brought a new concept to the market: ready-to-cook vegetables. Over 100 farmers from the region delivered their vegetables to VEZET. In 1979, Albert Heijn started selling the first products.

Vezet became Royal

In 2014, Vezet became Royal Vezet. In September of this year, Vezet had the honor to meet the king and queen of the Netherlands and show them the factory in Warmenhuizen.

Future generation

In 2022, Frans J.N. Kramer, 4th generation of the Kramer family opened the new building of Royal Vezet to be ready for the next generation. With Alice Kramer, the 5th generation as lady speaker during this festive day, the next generation takes the stage.

A visionary mind

Jaap Varekamp was a true pioneer in the field of pre-cut vegetables, with a keen eye for new developments. After selling his supermarket in 1985, he continued cutting vegetables under a company called Tuinderij Vers. Losing 5.000 euro in the first year, Tuinderij Vers has now grown into a multi-million business.

Intergenerational management

The ‘senior’ and ‘junior’ management team pose proudly in front of the newly-built factory in 2000. Working with different generations enriches life in both directions.

Entrepreneur award 2017

Winning the Rotterdam Entrepreneurship Award in 2017 was a crowning achievement for the entire Tuinderij Vers team. Here is a quote from the jury report:

“Tuinderij Vers is a family business that excels in authentic entrepreneurship. It overcomes great challenges and turns threats into opportunities.”

Supply the locals

Einar Hanasand took over the family farm in 1978. His mum sold their own produce at the local market in Stavanger.

Since 2012

In 2012, Einar had the idea of utilising irregular size vegetables for processing and sell these processed products in the Norwegian market. The first investment in a production line for washing and processing vegetables was done, and KLAR AS was born.

Surrounded by the seas

KLAR is located in Randaberg, a unique location surrounded by the sea on three sides. Vegetable producers here have the longest season in Norway, which stretches from April to December.
